Enhanced Revit 2017 For Building Information Modeling – New Features Explained

Revit undoubtedly is the most advanced platform for building information modeling (BIM) for engineers and architects in the construction industry. Autodesk has been doing quite lot of changes in Revit features to enhance software performance. Autodesk has announced for new Autodesk Revit 2017 features recently that will improve efficiency in processes within an extended, multi-discipline Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow. Revit 2017 will be stand alone platform which is going to combine MEP, Structure and Architecture platforms incorporate all of their individual features in one. This one of the biggest change in Revit 2017.

Note: Except Revit 2017, Autodesk Subscriber and students using 2016 R2 will be benefited with the new features.

Global Parameter

Global parameter is a subscription feature which introduces the parametric power of families into a given project environment to better capture design intent. In a project file, you can use Global Parameters to control the geometry of elements and build relations between different projects. You can also use formulas to create complex parametric relations between the global parameters. The feature of Revit 2017 lets users define parameters between elements across an entire building project.

Like Global parameter, this features was also introduced in Revit 2016 and has been improved in Revit 2017. According to Autodesk, it will improve overall software performance by 20%. The result of this occlusion culling is view refresh and user navigation that is up to 4.5 times faster than before. Revit 2017 focus on improving user productivity thus made the software easier to use with multiple changes. It is much faster than previous update and the models would be more lightweight.  

 

Depth Cueing

Download Revit 2017 to avail new features Graphic display option called Depth Cue that allows you to control how elements that are farther away from the the viewer display in section and elevation views to give users and clients a better idea of the design. The effect is created by having objects fade into background color with increasing distance from the viewer. You can improve the effectiveness of Depth Cueing by controlling the depth of the model view.

Text Enhancement in Revit 2017

Text Enhancement

Text tools is for annotation to view in situations where you don’t use tags. It give additional information about the design. The features has been updated to a WYSIWYG text editor in Revit 2017. You can also use text for large blocks of informations like the general notes on the title sheet of the project. By double clicking the text element, it will activate for editing.

Communicate Better and Collaboration With Autodesk A360

Revit 2017 is more effective for BIM with latest enhancement for Architects and Engineers. Like mentioned in Text Enhancement section, it helps users to document a project in greater detailing and effectively elevating communication capabilities in ways that help users to share data both within Revit and in extended BIM workflows. Sharing Data has been improved with new tools which simplify reuse of schedules. Revit 2017 is one of the first BIM tools to support IFC4. Autodesk Revit 2017 also featured with new tool called FormIt 360 Converter which allows users convert FormIt, Revit Families (RFA) and SketchUp (SKP) files interchangeably.

The Autodesk A360 Collaboration for Revit service is pre installed in Revit 2017 that allows users to use of this subscription service for project team collaboration via cloud worksharing.

 

Raytracer rendering

Autodesk Raytracer rendering was introduced in Revit 2016 as one of the two rendering engine has become default visualization engine in Revit 2017. It define a custom render quality to specify light and material accuracy, and render duration options. It has now new image-based lighting and video card-agnostic CPU operation to provide photorealistic renderings.  

 

Fabrication

Detailers can use Revit to create a coordinated and constructible model that contains LOD 400 content from the Autodesk Fabrication products. To use MEP Fabrication, users must have fabrication configurations installed and fabrication service must be loaded into the model to use the content. Several changes has been made in Revit 2017 for Fabrication (Insert Part, Connect as Tap, Rotation Tap, Show Service) to which help to improve workflow and productivity for fabrication detailing tasks.
